activities carried on here are a children’s reading program, a summer program, and a cultural exchange. The library is open from 08:30 to 13:00 hrs. (8:30 AM to 1 PM) and from 14:30 to 18:30 hrs. (2:30 PM to 6:30 PM) Monday through Friday. Book donations are welcome. Some bilingual dictionaries in Maya, Spanish and English may be found here as well.

CEA (Centro Ecologico de Akumal or The Akumal Ecological Center)

CEA is a non-profit organization that provides community education, general information, and volunteer support for environmental issues. Their primary focus is ensuring the survival of the sea turtle by collecting eggs at night during the nesting season, and protecting them from predators. In the center you can learn about these amazing sea animals and why saving them is such a necessitie. You can also purchase souvenirs or make a contribution to this wonderful cause. The office is located right after la Cancha (the basketball court), across from the Hotel las Casitas arch. There are plenty of signs to point the way.

Kids Club

The Kids Club is located in front of Akumal Bay, within walking distance of la Cancha (the basketball court). When passing the Hotel las Casitas arch, turn right and walk just 150 meters (150 yards) and you will find it. This is an enclosed area filled with toys, a small classroom and a play area. For a reasonable price, you can safely drop your kid off while you attend to other business.
